Beat Keepers
Overview:
Our Beat Keepers play mallet instruments, bucket drums, hand drums, and more! In this class we learn the fundamentals of group percussion playing, music reading, and other skills that will set them up for our middle school classes and ensembles.

Skills gained:
-
Learn the etiquette and discipline needed to be a contributing member in a group music environment
-
Developing a steady beat and maintaining repetitive patterns
-
Identifying variations in sound color, rhythm, melody, harmony
-
Introduction to drumstick, hand, mallet, and shaker techniques
-
Learning musical form and song structure

Music and Activities:
We use the ever-popular Orff instruments, kid-sized hand drums, while introducing professional quality instruments into our music and lessons to create a progressive curriculum that's fun and engaging. We focus our ensemble playing around popular music and common grooves that incorporate chords, melodies, and musical phrases into our learning.

Bell Achievements:
Each student will receive small, colorful bell throughout each class based on musical activities, participation (giving it their best), and respectful actions. The bells are collected on a string and kept at the studio, where students can see a physical representation of their musical growth.
