Private Lessons
Overview:
Private percussion lessons uniquely offer intuitive instruments, so music-making can begin right away. Think about the difference between a hand drum and a set of bagpipes. Which one would a student make a good sound first? Not only does the study of percussion emphasize coordination and rhythm, but it also offers our students the opportunity to study melody, harmony, and mastery of the keyboard through marimba, xylophone, vibraphone, and glockenspiel playing. We teach beginner piano lessons, too!
For our youngest students, percussion-centric general music lessons allow the young minds to latch onto the teacher's musicality and explore the various soundworlds and musical activites. For our youngest students, we especially focus on creating ties between images and sound that guide our young students' minds toward written music and the abstract ways pictures can guide our music-making. The variety of instruments is great for the wandering mind as well—if the drumset gets stale, we can transition over to xylophone, djembe, or even found objects!
For middle school and high school-aged students, percussion lessons are a great way to perfect the techniques needed to be a contributing member of their school band. For those who are not in school music programs, percussion gives an musically-curious person the ability to learn a form of music they can take with them anywhere.
